I hope to Jesus that Sushi is not fattening and is actually good for you. Amen.
It seems I can't get enough of it. For so much of my life I didn't eat it and thought I didn't like it. I must be making up for lost time. I have been to the new Carytown Sushi place two nights in a row. Thankfully the staff was different than the night before.
As I sat at work today pondering how long I could go without returning it occurred to me that , duh, there are lots of Sushi places where I live so I will just try a different one and go to them all on a rotating schedule. Your mind really can wander while you are filing. And while I am doing that why not go ahead and review them all for you here. I am definitely a novice and most likely should never be taken seriously but that being said - I will tell you what I think of each Sushi place I visit.
Hopefully the first review will appear soon.
Anyone with any sushi restaurant or dish recommendations please comment.

Is Hanna Zushi still in Shockoe Slip? That was a great place if it is. I personally only go as far as california rolls, but my friends who were sushi gurus loved it.
Ukrop's has quick sushi that you can take home if you don't want to face restaurant staff twice or three times in a week. It's not the best sushi in the world but it's not the worst either.
One of the things I like about Carytown Sushi is they will make me rolls with soy paper instead of seaweed (I no likey seaweed) and so that has opened up a whole new world - before I was restricted to just the fish and rice - which is great also.
Thanks for the comments - I will try both these places and report my findings.
You guys Rock, btw!
anyone else?
Our production staff used to go to Akido (or is it Akida??) every payday Friday. The're on Robinson just off Broad behind BankofAmerica. I am not a sushi lover, but the production folks loved it there.
A place in philly used to use daikon radish for me instead of rice (when making a hand roll). I was doing Atkins at the time, but really loved the daikon radish. You might ask about that sometime. I love sushi but only tuna, fatty tuna and salmon. Don't care for the other whitefish or eel. Love you!
I have been to Akido and I like it but CS is better.
Sissy - they do the radish thing there and a cucumber thing too - it all rocks -
CS has a roll with shrimp inside and spicy tuna on top. It is called a Queens roll. It is my favorite thing ever.
There is also a place on Cary and River Rd (across for Talbots before the Hugenot bridge) anyone know of any others?
I went through a phase when I had a crush on spider rolls. It's over now, but it lasted a good year. It wasn't one of those crushes that has lasted a lifetime, like my love for artichokes.
mmmmmmmm sushi. I never thought I would like it, until The Dean convinced me to try. Now I heart it ever so. My faves are Salmon roll, Tuna roll, and avacado. I'm not big on the eel, but The Dean loves it. Next time you're in DC, we'll go to our fave sushi place for "Sushi Happy Hour".
Sushi Happy Hour?? That sounds hot. I am soo there Sparki.
OK I just have to share that Pop send me an email about this post and said "you hope to WHOM?" then I explained that I wasn't praying...just hoping and I figured that was Kosher.
I thought the "I hope to Jesus" part was the funniest part of the post. If I thought I would get some good sushi out of it- sure, why not hope to whomever? If the best sushi EVER in the WORLD started falling out of the sky and landing on my plate, complete with ginger and wasabi, and maybe a chopstick or two, I'd be at the Cutler Bay Baptist Church knocking down the door. Glory be. Thank you, baba!
There was this special news report on NBC last night (I think it was NBC) about Sushi places in major cities selling less then quality fish or in some cases switching the high price fish for low price fish that look the same. They didn't mention Richmond, but it made me mad...and I don't even eat fish! It did look like it was all seedy low end food joints however. Blah!
